About Queen’s Grant High School

At Last! A Campus of our Own!

After two years of rapid growth, QGPHS has moved from its temporary site at Garr Christian Academy and poised to spread our wings at last! Now it’s full speed ahead for workers as they ready our new campus on Idlewild Road, formerly the site of Idlewild Country Club, for the first day of school set for August 19.

Mobile classrooms recently placed on the 30-acre site will soon be moved to the cleared area to the left of the administrative building. These will be configured to create a virtually enclosed space of adjoining classrooms for grades 9-12. A cafeteria and lunchtime courtyard will be great additions this year, along with our own sports fields and host of other “first steps” as we move forward with our long-range building plans.

Tuition-free – but not CMS!

Unfamiliar with charter schools? We want to tell you more about how these public schools — paid for by your tax dollars — give your family an education choice. One of only 100 charters in NC, the Queen’s Grant Community School charter includes grades K-12 and is open to any NC resident at no cost. By law, our charter is required to meet the same academic criteria as Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools; however, we have our own school board, and additional flexibilities in hiring, curriculum, classroom size, among other guidelines designed to create the best possible education experience.

While some spaces remain for the 2009-2010 school year, a lottery process will be required by next school year as our student population multiplies. The majority of our remaining seats are open in grades 10-12.
