Sabryah AlghraryEmail

AlghraryMs. Alghrary, a native Charlottean, graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design with a BFA in painting and a minor in Art History. She also completed some graduate Psychology work at Walden University. She completed the Teacher Certification program at ECU and has taught high school art for five years, as well as teaching Continued Education computer courses for four years. Ms. Alghrary is a teacher of Art I and Art II at Queen’s Grant, as well as the Art Club Advisor for the school and a working artist. Her artwork has been displayed in the Charlotte area for ten years. Her favorite pastimes include painting, travel, live music, and spending time with her son, Aydin.

Molly BennettEmail

BennettMrs. Bennett was raised in the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia and attended the University of Georgia where she received her bachelor’s degree in Biology with a minor in Spanish. She worked briefly for a medical software company in Atlanta before deciding to become a teacher. She taught science for a year and a half in Georgia where she also coached cheerleading and sponsored FCA. After marrying her husband in July of 2008, she moved to Charlotte and began teaching at Queen’s Grant. Her subjects are Biology and Earth/Environmental Science. She enjoys reading, working out, playing tennis, swimming,  hanging out with family and friends, watching movies, traveling, and cheering on the University of Georgia Bulldogs!

Ms. Bennett offers tutoring before school on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7:00-7:45.

Matthew CarrEmail

CarrMatthew Carr is from Rustburg, Virginia. He is a graduate  of ASU, being a scholarship athlete in Track & Field, and holding a Masters degree in History. He has taught US History, World History, Civics, and Criminal Justice. He has traveled to various places in the world, most recently spending his 2009 summer in Europe, working in an Albanian orphanage.  At Queen’s Grant, he is teaching U.S. History and American History in Films. He is also QGPHS’s wrestling and soccer coach.

Claudia De La MoraEmail

Ms. De La Mora holds a bachelors degree in Business Administration from Colombia, South America. She  has taught at Charlotte Christian Academy, in addition to teaching business professionals through the Berlitz Program. She teaches Spanish II and III at Queen’s Grant.

Ms. De La Mora offers tutoring on Monday mornings at 7:00.

Danielle DetmerEmail

McNaneyMrs. Detmer is an Algebra I, Trigonometry, and Calculus teacher at Queen’s Grant Preparatory High School. She holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Math from Liberty University and Kansas State University, respectively, and her thesis was in Math Education. Mrs. Detmer is also the school’s volleyball coach, being an accomplished athlete in her own right competing on the USA track team.


Mrs. Detmer offers tutoring on Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons from 2:30-3:00.

Nick FanelliEmail

Fanelli3Mr. Fanelli graduated from Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee where he earned a Master’s degree, and had begun work on his Doctorate in Philosophy of Education. Before coming to QGPHS, he was a teacher of Science, Math, and Pre-Med. at Lee University. At Queen’s Grant, he conducts Sports Medicine and Physical Science classes, while also coaching Soccer for the Boys and Girls teams.


Mr. Fanelli offers tutoring each morning at 7:00.

MaryBeth FayEmail

FayMs. Fay graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 2003 with a BA in English and Italian. After earning her MA in Education from Wake Forest in 2005, she began teaching at Notre Dame Academy in Northern Virginia. At Notre Dame Academy, she taught ninth grade English, and established a journalism program. Before coming to Queen’s Grant she taught tenth and twelfth grade English at Cannon School in Concord, NC. Now she teaches eleventh and twelfth grade English along with the Newspaper class.


Ms. Fay offers tutoring on Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 2:45-3:15.

Eric HillEmail

HillEric Hill graduated from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania with a BS in Secondary Education/Social Studies in 2003 and earned his Master of Education degree from Framingham State College in 2008. He has been teaching social studies classes for 6 years including Geography, World History, US History, Civics & Economics, and Psychology. He is currently teaching the latter two at QGPHS.


Mr. Hill offers tutoring on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons from 2:40-3:30.

Michelle HorkanEmail

Horkan Mrs. Horkan taught at QGPHS during the 2008-2009 school year and has rejoined the staff for                                   the second semester of the 2009-2010 school year.  She and her family moved here from                                                  Michigan in 2008.  Mrs. Horkan is married and has two children.

Erica InceEmail

InceErica Lisbeth Ince grew up in Mount Holly, NC. She graduated from Appalachian State University with degrees in History and Social Science Education and a minor in English. While at App, she served as Vice President of Recruitment of Alpha Phi sorority and was a North Carolina Teaching Fellow. She also was heavily involved in the theatre and music programs. After graduating, Ms. Ince worked in a temporary position at Lincolnton High School teaching World History and directing the school musical, “Into the Woods.”  She then moved to Olympic High School, serving as the track coach and teaching World History, Civics and Economics, AP European History and AP Psychology. She was then offered a job working at the Comptroller for the Elect Pat McCrory Governor Campaign. She is teaching World History for Queen’s Grant, and she will be starting her Master’s in the spring. She enjoys spending time with her new fiancé, watching Jeopardy and reading.

Ms. Ince offers tutoring from Wednesday afternoons from 2:30-3:30 and Monday-Thursday mornings from 7:00-7:45.

Melissa JacksonEmail

JacksonMs. Jackson has been working at Queen’s Grant Preparatory High since the first year of the school. She teaches Creative Writing, World Religions and Cultures, and Yearbook classes. She earned her bachelor’s degree in English and History from Michigan State University and her masters in Education from Aquinas College in Michigan. She has nine years of experience in teaching. In her spare time, she enjoys reading and cooking.

Daniel KerrEmail

Mr. Kerr joined the Queens Grant staff as a Health/PE and Group Fitness teacher from Rochester, New York, where his prior teaching had been in the urban setting of the Rochester City School District. He has a Bachelor of Science in Education in Physical Education from SUNY Cortland, and is currently finishing up his grad work in sports coaching at the United States Sports Academy. He has coached a number of sports, including soccer, cross country, basketball, and baseball. He is starting up and coaching the new QGPHS baseball program as well as building on the existing girls basketball program.

Anna Marie MartinEmail

Martin2Ms. Martin, a native Charlottean and Gardner-Webb graduate, has three years experience teaching art and two years teaching English classes. She has also completed the Queens University teacher certification program. At Queen’s Grant, Ms. Martin is teaching Art I and Junior English. She is the National Honor Society Advisor for Queen’s Grant, as well as the tennis coach. Some of her hobbies include hiking, tennis, traveling, and cactus gardening.


Ms. Martin offers tutoring on Friday afternoons at 2:30 and by appointment.

Harvey MilesEmail

MilesMr. Miles is originally from Buffalo, New York.  Mr. Miles served his country as a Marine Corp Reservist with a cold weather infantry company. He graduated from Haughton College with a B.S. in Management and a M.S. in Education from Buffalo State College specializing in disabled and at risk learners. He completed the graduate school with a 4.0 GPA.  In Buffalo,  Mr. Miles worked at Erie Community College in Disabled Student Services preparing students with an array of disabilities for college academics and accommodations. Mr. Miles served on several consortiums for students with disabilities. He also has several years of experience with educational programming for youth.  Mr. Miles enjoys sports, computers and civic activities.  He teaches Pre-Algebra, Consumer Math, and Study Skills.

Melanie MooreEmail

Ms. Moore has a total of 23 years experience as a medical practice manager. She attended both UNCC and Kings College. For 7 years she taught the subjects of Anatomy, Physiology, and Microbiology; also teaching at a clinical lab at ECPI Medical Careers Institute. In 2008, Ms. Moore received the Instructor of the Year Award. At Queen’s Grant she teaches both Biotechnology and Anatomy & Physiology.

Ms. Ramsey is a graduate of Olivet College in Michigan where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics Education and Business Administration.  She began her career teaching middle school math at Queen’s Grant Community School before joining QGPHS where she teaches Geometry and Algebra II.  Ms. Ramsey loves to listen to music, travel, read, tutor and coach volleyball.

Lindsay RileyEmail

RileyMs. Riley is a native of Auburn, Massachusetts.  She earned her B.A in History from The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts; and her Master of Science in Education, specializing in severe special needs, from Simmons College in Boston.  This is her sixth year teaching students with disabilities.  Ms. Riley is Queen’s Grant Preparatory High School’s Exceptional Children Coordinator and Building 504 Coordinator.  She also teaches Study Skills, and handles the school’s special education consults.  After school, Ms. Riley serves as the training coach for QGPHS’s varsity cheerleading team; and organizes student volunteers for Special Olympics North Carolina, for which she serves as Gaston County’s local coordinator.

Ms. Riley offers tutoring daily by appointment.

Mr. Russell a graduate of Gordon College in Massachusetts and has a passion for  Modern European History.   Mr. Russell was formerly employed with Lincoln County Schools.  He is also a former soccer & basketball coach.  He offers private music instruction in piano, guitar, and drums.  His classes here are Psychology, Constitutional History, Criminal Justice, Current Events, and History of the World Wars.  He is also an assistant coach for the baseball team.

Kymberly ShowersEmail

Ms. Showers was born and raised in southern New Jersey where she grew up on a dairy farm and became a member of 4-H and the FFA. She attended UNC Charlotte and has a bachelor’s degree in Biology. She has four years experience teaching a wide variety of sciences including Biology and physical sciences. She continues to teach at QGPHS in Chemistry and Physical Science. Ms. Showers enjoys reading, Scrabble, Sudoku, and spending time with her family, which includes her children Kassi, Zak, Kennedy, and Jakob.

Stacey SuttonEmail

SuttonMrs. Sutton is originally from Yorktown, Virginia. She has graduated from Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia and has taught 9th and 10th grade standard, honors and pre-IB English for 5 years at York High School in Yorktown. At Cary High School in Cary, North Carolina, Ms. Sutton taught 10th grade honors and standard English for 2 years. At Queen’s Grant, she teaches ninth grade English. Married to Scott Sutton, they have two boys, Grayson age 7 and Jackson age 5.

Leanne ThurmanEmail

Ms. Thurman received her bachelor’s degree from Northwest Missouri State University with certification in Spanish and Vocal Music. In 2007 she spent six months living and studying in Spain. Before coming to Queens Grant she taught music and Spanish at a middle school in Charlotte, and also directed their 6th grade choir.   She has been a Girl Scout Camp Counselor and tutored English to adults.  At Queen’s Grant, she teaches Spanish I and is leading Queen’s Grant’s new music clubs. Her hobbies include going to the opera, hiking in the mountains, and whitewater rafting.

Eric WichmanEmail

WichmanEric Wichman has taught English, French, and Creative Writing in grades six through twelve. His undergraduate degree is from the University of Maryland, with a BA in French, Language, and Literature. His Master’s degree is in teaching secondary English from UNCC. He has been a Teacher Consultant and summer reading and writing Camp Director for the National Writing Project at UNCC. He teaches Sophomore English and Drama and conducts the Drama Club at Queen’s Grant. His hobbies include swimming, cycling, and skiing.


Mr. Wichman offers tutoring on Thursday and Friday afternoons at 2:30.
