What are the school hours? School hours are 7:50 – 2:30. We recommend students arrive on campus at 7:30am. Students should not arrive in the morning before 7:15. Students need to be picked up by 3:00 unless they are involved with or attending after school activities.
How many classes do students take? Our students take 8 year classes. We follow an A/B block schedule. This means that students attend 8 classes for the entire year. They attend four 90-minute classes on A-day and four different 90-minute classes on B-day. A-days and B-days are predetermined at the beginning of each year and are published on a calendar for students and parents to reference throughout the year. Queen’s Grant’s administration chose this schedule to minimize learning gaps for students.
Can my student transfer in during the year? If there are openings in a grade level, we can accept students into that grade level during the first 19 days of the school year. After that, students requesting transfer need to be coming from a school with an A/B block schedule or a traditional schedule and be currently attending 8 classes. These requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Queen’s Grant High School has a modified block schedule. Surrounding public schools have a traditional block schedule in which students attend 4 90-minute classes each day for a semester, and then switch to new classes at the semester. This block schedule is sometimes referred to as a four-by-four (4X4) schedule. Queen’s Grant has an A/B block schedule. If a student has been on the 4X4 schedule, it is impossible to transfer to an A/B-day schedule, as we get further into the school year.

Charter Schools
What is a charter school? Charter schools are public schools that provide parents a choice in the education of their children. Public tax dollars are the primary funding sources for charter schools. Local, state, and federal dollars follow the child to a charter school. The schools have open enrollment with no discrimination, no religious associations, and no tuition.
How do I enroll my student in a charter school? Parents must contact each individual school to see if they have openings. If a charter school has more applicants than available slots, an open lottery must be held to fill the slots.
Aren’t some charter schools impossible to get into unless you know someone who already attends? Admission preferences may be given to younger siblings of currently enrolled students. Children of teachers and administrators at a charter school may also be given admission preferences at that school. If a school has more applicants than openings, the remaining openings are filled in an open lottery.
